Small Changes For Your Home In The Spring

Spring is definitely in the air.

The season is one of rejuvenation. It’s a great time to freshen up our homes and make some changes as we progress toward the warmer months. Though it is a great time to begin planning for those larger projects in your home, it’s also nice to have a list of smaller ones that can really help reflect the change of season.

Here are some small projects to tackle this spring:
Add rich color.

Re-organize the hallway closet or entryway closet, or if you are lucky enough to have a mudroom, start some organization projects for this space. These areas work hard during the winter months, and as spring sets in, it is a great time to freshen up and re-configure them. Storing away winter outerwear like winter coats and boots usually kicks off a thorough cleaning. Taking their place might be gardening shoes, an extra tote bag, an umbrella, and your gym bag. We might store these items in this area in the spring. Maybe consider a fresh coat of paint and new custom built-in cabinetry, or coat hooks. Baskets or bins can be helpful to store some of the smaller items in a mudroom or coat closet.

Change out throw pillows, and heavy, throw blankets in your living area. Bring in a fresh new color or fabric to create a new look for spring. This is also a great time to look into creating custom window treatments for your home. Since custom window treatments have a long lead time, starting these projects in the spring can ensure that they are complete before the colder, winter holiday season approaches.

Add rich color.

Organize the kitchen pantry for seasonal entertaining. If you don’t have a pantry, perhaps you can use a kitchen cabinet or another space in your home to create a summer entertaining area. Shuffling items outside for outdoor entertaining will be a lot easier if you have some of these items prepared so that they are ready to go at a moment’s notice. These items might include outdoor serving pieces, dishware, cutlery, trays, and assorted serving items, which will now be easily accessible when it’s time to do some entertaining.

Create a welcoming entry by hanging a wreath on your front door and changing out the look of your welcome mat. These items get a lot of wear and tear in the harsh winter weather. Freshening up your entry by updating these items is always a good idea in the early spring, and this is an added opportunity to bring in a touch of spring color before guests even enter your home.

Add rich color.

Add some new artwork to your home. Adding a new piece of artwork can definitely change the look of a space. Changing out a piece of art will give you an inspirational starting point for freshening up the look of the rest of your room. For instance, if you introduce a new piece of artwork, it might have some new colors in the space that can now be brought into the room with other elements, like fabrics and accessories.

Rearrange your existing furniture. Even if you change the position of a few pieces of furniture in a room, this could change the function and feel of the space. Changing the position of a chair can give you a view of the garden while you read or dine during the warmer months.

These small seasonal changes can help you transition your home into the warmer months. Creating some additional functionality and a fresh new feeling for your home!

Until next time,
