Preparing Your Home For The Holiday Entertaining Season
Sometimes entertaining at home can seem overwhelming with everything else happening at this time of year.
I try to do this mid to late fall so that things are in good shape before setting up the holiday decorations, then routine cleanings throughout the season will usually keep things well maintained until the end of the holiday season.
Stock your kitchen with cooking, baking, and entertaining staples.
Stock your kitchen with all of the necessities you know you will use during the holiday season. Be sure your spices are well-stocked and fresh. Gather any baking supplies you know you will need. Also, stock up on any items that could help you pull together a quick meal or items to prepare a few appetizers in the event of some unexpected guests. Doing all of this in advance will eliminate lots of last-minute trips to the grocery store for basic items.
Prepare your guest room for holiday guests.
If you’re lucky enough to have a guestroom in your home, you might find that it becomes a place where seldom-used items seem to go and gather. If you’re expecting holiday guests, be sure your guest room is ready. Make sure this area is cleaned well in advance. Add fresh linens, guest towels, guest soaps, or any other necessities that you might want to provide for your guests during their stays. This will make him feel welcome in your home. I like to add fresh flowers right before my guests arrive as well.
Instead of feeling pressured to rush around decorating your home during holiday shopping and entertaining, start just a little earlier than you normally do so you can enjoy the process before the rush of the season gets into full swing. This also allows you to enjoy your holiday decorations for the entire holiday season.
Stock up on household items.
Household items like paper plates, napkins, candles, extra paper towels, and other household or entertaining supplies. Buying these items in advance will allow you to entertain easily and spontaneously. It makes sense to prepare for more people being in your home during this busy season.
I hope these tips help to prepare your home for all of your holiday entertaining.
Until Next Time,
Gia
