One Of Our Recent Projects- Custom Doggie Lounge

Recently, we completed a full home renovation with every room thoughtfully redesigned.

During the final phase of the project, we discussed creating a dedicated place for the homeowner to store their dog crates. After exploring several ideas to enclose or camouflage the dog crates, we kept coming back to the area under the existing stairway, an often overlooked space we believed could be repurposed.

Once we opened up this area, we confirmed there was enough space to move forward with something special. Instead of a traditional crate, we decided to create a custom dog lounge that would replace the crate on this side of the home while blending seamlessly with the overall design.

Designing a Dog Lounge That Matches the Home

The homeowner wanted the ability to lock and unlock the gate to allow the dogs in and out of the lounge with ease. To achieve this, we designed a custom gate that the homeowner can operate directly from her phone. I wanted this space to feel like a natural extension of the home, so I designed the gate to mimic the Chippendale bamboo detail used on the kitchen counter stool backs. My team crafted a beautiful gate and framed it to blend with the rest of the woodwork.

Because the lounge is visible from the kitchen entry and the kitchen itself, it was important that the entire space reflected the same level of quality and attention to detail found throughout the rest of the house.

Custom Details That Make the Space Special

To elevate the design, I worked with an artisan who created custom wallpaper featuring a few of my client’s dog photos incorporated into the pattern. He did a wonderful job, but assured me it was a one-time project due to the time involved. The regal wallpaper set the perfect tone for the doggie lounge.

I also designed a custom dog bed to complement the overall aesthetic of the space. We used performance fabrics and fabricated detachable cushions so that everything can be easily cleaned. The gold leaf feet on our custom dog chaise complemented the gold frames featured in the custom wallpaper. To complete the space, I added a custom area rug.

A Happy Ending for Everyone

Gigi and Annabelle were happy to participate in our final photo session, welcoming us back to the new doggie lounge. The homeowner was thrilled with the finished results, and I was equally thrilled we were able to transform this unused space into something both functional and beautiful.

Until next time,
