Tip # 4-
Lighting Up The Tree

Now it is time to light up the tree! First step, purchase your lights. I usually figure approximately one 100 light strand per foot of your tree height. You can certainly use less lights, but, the more lights the better. I use white twinkle lights but depending on your taste and color scheme, colored lights create a more nostalgic look. Always start by removing all tags and stickers from your light strand so they will not be seen in your tree. Start by plugging in your extension cord and then plug your lights into the cord or outlet. The next step is to work your way up from the bottom of the lowest tree limbs through the middle, then wrap each limb out to the tip and work light strand back toward the tree trunk. Continue around the bottom limbs ,then run the lights up close to the trunk and start working your way around the next layer of tree limbs. The goal is to spread the lights out evenly throughout the tree and hide as much of the light cord as possible. Add new strands as you climb the tree with the lights. Three strands strung to each other is about maximum of what I like to attach together. I usually run another extension with an outlet up along the trees trunk so that I can start adding additional strands as you continue up the tree.Consult your electrician for any safety concerns and always follow the manufacturers suggestions as to the amount of lights strung together. Another good tip, I always do the stringing of the lights, with the lights plugged in, this makes it easier to see that you are evenly placing the lights as you work.
