Choosing a color scheme for your Christmas tree is the next step in decorating the perfect Christmas Tree. This could be a well thought out color scheme to coordinate with your home’s existing decor or a stand alone scheme of holiday colors, metallics, or a monochromatic color scheme. As long as the color is evenly dispersed throughout the space, it will visually connect all the decorations. I like to think about my Christmas color scheme throughout the house early in this process so my decorations flow carefully and seamlessly from one room to the next. After years of collecting, I have a lot of decorations, so I do things a little differently each year, especially since I photograph all the decorations. But if you are just starting out, build your decorations around one or two colors, and let it build from there , adding just a few new ornaments in a new color can make your tree look totally new and different when mixed with your existing decorations. Homemade decorations allow you to create great visual impact by taking a variety of items and painting them the same color. One of my first trees was created with a variety of natural items, pinecones, branches, and a variety of old ornaments, and cardboard stars. I gilded everything gold and created a unique one of a kind look for my first Christmas tree as a young adult. I actually still have some of those early ornaments. Also, quick tip, if you are going to gild anything, use a good gilding paint and wear heavy gloves. There is no wrong combination if you love the look, even colors that are not considered Christmas colors can give you a beautiful fresh look for your Christmas tree.
