Should I do a Full Kitchen Renovation, or Can I Just do a Partial Renovation?

Kitchen renovation- Should I do a full kitchen renovation, or can I just do a partial renovation? That depends. Many clients come to me with thoughts of doing just a partial kitchen renovation in an effort to retain elements of their old kitchen or to try to conserve costs for the project. There are times when you can renovate a few elements without affecting the rest of the room. However, a kitchen has a variety of elements that, process-wise, depend on each other like the pieces of a puzzle. So, when you consider renovating a kitchen, some changes can be done independently while some others require the inclusion of other elements as far as the process of building or designing. Here are a few tips to help you decide if a full kitchen renovation is right for you.
10 Ways To Cozy Up Your Home For Fall

1.

Everything in the kitchen needs a certain amount of space to make everything fit and be functional. This is why planning the space of your kitchen renovation is so important. If you are looking to change the layout of your kitchen, you most likely will wind up renovating the entire space, so you should plan accordingly. For instance, it’s very hard to move just one appliance. If you want to relocate your refrigerator, you will need to reconfigure your other large appliances as well. This could involve new cabinetry, change of electrical and lighting placement, and possibly plumbing placement. However, if you are happy with the current layout of your kitchen, then perhaps you could do a partial renovation which might consist of just a countertop backsplash, new plumbing fixtures, and new appliances.

Will you need new appliances? Sometimes changing to new appliances requires you to make changes in the existing cabinetry. For example, older refrigerators were sized much differently than today’s models. Cabinetry built around an older, smaller refrigerator might not be able to accommodate the size of a new refrigerator.

3.

Dealing with the old cabinetry. Some homeowners try to save older cabinetry for a variety of reasons. However, a kitchen renovation is a big and costly project. As such, you want to be certain that you were very happy with the results in the end. Spending a lot of money on new appliances, a new sink, and then not replacing older cabinets is a decision you might regret. New cabinetry allows you to make changes in layout, customize storage options, and improve the overall design of the space. It also gives your kitchen longevity by having everything replaced at once.

4.

If your cabinetry is relatively new and you just want to make small changes, things like a new countertop and a backsplash make sense. Of course, if you are doing this while also attempting changes like flooring, it can create issues with floor heights and appliances clearances. Knowing this, stick to small changes if you are not changing your cabinetry. This way, you can avoid unknowingly going into a larger renovation than what you’ve planned.

Planning is everything. That is why having a professionally designed plan of action will help you to explore the best possible layout for your kitchen space. This helps you make sure that your end results accomplish all of your goals. When looking back, you won’t be regretting some of your decisions.
