Project Spotlight: Luxurious Pattern-Filled Guest Suite
It was great that the existing bedroom space had its own bathroom.
However, the existing bathroom was extremely dated and ready to be redesigned. Our homeowner wanted a space where guests could be comfortable.
Since we had already designed and renovated most of the spaces in this home, our homeowner wanted a guest suite that was up-to-date and as beautiful as the rest of her recently renovated home.
This part of the home, built in the 1700s, required extensive repairs to its original framing and fireplace. We replaced the windows and updated the woodwork, as this room had mismatched woodwork from different periods. We also replaced the original pine board flooring, which had seen better days.
This allowed us to continue the beautiful maple flooring that we used in the rest of the house into the space as well.
When I began designing the space, I knew that we would be eliminating the bathtub in the new bathroom and replacing the combined shower and tub with a beautiful tile shower instead.
I used a mix of lapis blue porcelain, white porcelain, and marble tiles on the bathroom floor, shower floor, and shower walls to create an interesting mix of patterns in this bathroom.
I wanted this space to feel peaceful yet happy, so I used a mix of beautiful soothing blue tones in both rooms. Keeping our color palette to just the blue and white left me room to use a mix of patterns in the space. The custom vanity in the bathroom was painted a vibrant blue, which accented this whimsical, scalloped vanity. Gleaming chrome hardware, a custom-painted vanity mirror, quartz countertops with a scalloped backsplash, a custom glass enclosure, and beautiful antique-inspired vanity lighting completed the look.
I chose floral wallpapers in both the bathroom and bedroom. This mix of pattern and color is both whimsical and calming. I added even more patterns through custom-designed window treatments and pillows. This was done strategically, creating a well-balanced mix of patterns in our chosen color scheme. We added artwork, accessories, and an area rug. Plus, we repurposed a few pieces of the homeowner’s existing furnishings, including a beautiful heirloom crystal lamp from the homeowner’s mother, who recently passed away.
As usual, my team of craftsmen used their skills to expertly implement every detail of this design, bringing this vision to life! My client is thrilled with the guest suite, and I am so pleased with the final results! A luxurious and welcoming guest suite.
Until Next Time,
Gia
