Functional Luxury: A Luxurious First Floor Bath Transformation

We recently completed the final stages of a renovation for a beautiful country home that we designed and renovated over several phases. Each stage allowed us to thoughtfully re-imagine how the home functioned as a whole.

Originally, this home featured a first-floor bathroom that was being used as a handicapped bath. Unfortunately, the existing design was not properly configured to support the actual needs of the homeowner and proved to be challenging in nearly every way.

Early in the renovation process, I designed a beautiful and functional handicapped bath in another area of the home. Because we were renovating multiple spaces at once, we were able to evaluate the overall floor plan and flow of the home. I recommended adding a full handicapped bathroom in a different location where we had the space to design it properly for the homeowner’s needs. We ultimately created a suite that included a bedroom with an attached handicapped bathroom, which proved much more practical and useful.

Reimagining the Downstaris Bath

With the main suite completed, the original downstairs bathroom was no longer needed as a full bath. This allowed us to renovate it into a guest half bath. Eliminating the shower gave me plenty of space and flexibility for the layout and design. This bathroom became the final piece of this full home renovation.

Designing a Space That Feels Like Its Own World

While we wanted this bathroom to reflect the elevated look found throughout the rest of the home, I also wanted it to feel like a world of its own. I designed the space using luxurious materials, beautiful patterns, and thoughtful storage solutions.

To achieve this, we focused on a few key design elements:

  • Custom cabinetry and vanity that add rich detail while creating a strong focal point in the room and providing additional storage
  • A translucent stone countertop, under-lit to create a soft, luminous glow when the light is turned on.
  • Patterned wallpaper on the walls and ceiling, using a complementary patterned paper to add depth and visual interest
  • Brass fixtures, hardware, and lighting to reinforce the traditional elegance of this space

Together, these details transformed the room into a refined, yet inviting guest bath that feels intentional and beautifully layered.

I believe this could be my client’s new favorite room!

Until next time,

Gia
